Scope

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a Cabinet-level executive branch department of the Federal Government whose workforce is comprised of approximately 650,000 clinical and non-clinical personnel (of which approximately 450,000 are employees) charged with providing lifelong healthcare services to eligible military veterans at the 1,380 health care facilities, including 170 VA medical centers and 1,193 outpatient sites located throughout the country. Non-healthcare benefits include disability compensation, vocational rehabilitation, education assistance, home loans, and life insurance. The VA also provides burial and memorial benefits to eligible veterans and family members at the 157 VA managed or 125 VA grant-funded cemeteries.
